Turns a bounded Solid into a triangle mesh by sampling it on a uniform grid (cell = tolerance/2), so nothing at or above the tolerance is missed. Suits lattices, thin struts and infills; for CAD-like parts and the STEP chain use Solid to Delaunay Mesh. With a Print Process connected, it meshes at a third of the process's Smallest feature where that is finer than the Tolerance; the tolerance used and where it came from show as the mesh's Tolerance and Tolerance source. Where the Solid is thinner than two cells it warns, with where and the tolerance that holds it. With Remove small pieces on (the default), separate pieces with less surface than Small piece size are removed as meshing debris, and the mesh's Removed pieces and Share removed say how many and how much; above 1 % of the part's volume it warns that the part may have fallen apart, and where they are thin parts of the Solid broken apart it says that parts are missing.
The Solid to mesh; it must be bounded. Required.
Largest allowed distance from the true surface in mm (default 1). About a third of the smallest feature size is a good starting value. With a Print Process connected, its Smallest feature can make it finer.
Optional: how the part is printed, a Print Process. Connected, the mesh is made at a third of its Smallest feature where that is finer than the Tolerance, so every member the printer can make holds; a Print Process with no Smallest feature is refused by name. Unconnected, the Tolerance alone.
Keep sharp edges crisp (feature-fitting dual contouring). Slower, and runs on the CPU.
Reduce the triangle count afterwards (QEM decimation) within the tolerance; it never makes the surface cross itself.
Remove separate pieces with less surface than Small piece size: specks the sampling leaves where a surface only grazes it (default on). The mesh's Removed pieces and Share removed say what was taken off; above 1 % of the part's volume the block warns that the part may have fallen apart. Off, every piece is kept, and the block says how many.
The size under which Remove small pieces removes a piece, in percent of the largest piece's surface area (default 0.1 %).
Optional size in mm: bumps and holes smaller than this are removed from the result by a morphological open and close. It deletes detail rather than resolving it. Empty: no filtering.
Values the block gives besides its output. The editor lists them under Properties, and an input can read one by reference.
The mesh as a Solid, from its baked signed-distance field.
The axis-aligned extent of the mesh.
True when the mesh is watertight: it has no open boundary edges.
True when no edge is shared by more than two faces.
Each distinct mesh edge as a line segment.
How many triangles the mesh has.
True when every triangle is wound the same way as its neighbours.
How many separate small pieces the block's Remove small pieces took off the mesh it made: pieces with less surface than its Small piece size. Given by Solid to Mesh, Solid to Delaunay Mesh and Remesh (0 where none was removed, or where Remove small pieces is off); not listed for other meshes.
True when some pair of non-adjacent faces cross each other.
The volume of the pieces Remove small pieces took off, in percent of the part's: the volume the mesh enclosed before they were removed. Above 1 % the block warns that the part may have fallen apart. Given by Solid to Mesh, Solid to Delaunay Mesh and Remesh; not listed for other meshes.
The tolerance the mesh was made at: the largest distance from the Solid's surface it was made within. Given by Solid to Mesh, from its Tolerance or a connected Print Process (Tolerance source says which); not listed for other meshes.
Where the Tolerance came from: the block's Tolerance (at its default, set, or wired), or a connected Print Process — a third of its Smallest feature, where that is finer. Given by Solid to Mesh; not listed for other meshes.
How many vertices the mesh has.
True when the faces around each vertex form one connected fan.
The position of every vertex.
