Import STEP

Loads a STEP file as a CAD Part that keeps its bodies, faces and edges, so they can be picked downstream (CAD Body, then CAD Body to Solid). The file is stored in the document and read on this machine with OpenCASCADE.

Inputs

Asset Text

The STEP file stored in this document. Drop it into the editor or use Choose…; its bytes are saved with the document.

Takes: Join Texts, Number to Text, Split Text, Column to Text
Rotate Y to Z Yes/No

Turn a part modelled with Y pointing up so that Z points up instead. Not supported yet: switching it on stops the import with an error rather than bringing the part in unturned.

Heal cad Choice

How much automatic repair to apply to the CAD while importing. Only ‘None’ is supported; ‘Basic’ and ‘Deep’ stop the import with an error instead of being skipped silently.

Check model Yes/No

Look for problems in the part, like faces that cut through each other or collapsed features. Not supported yet: switching it on stops the import with an error rather than claiming a check that never ran. Off by default because that is what the importer really does.

Deflection Number

Largest allowed gap in mm between the CAD surface and its triangle mesh; smaller gives a finer mesh. 0 picks a value from the part's size so small rounds stay smooth.

Output

Part

Used by: Align, Move, Rotate, Scale, CAD Bodies of Part, CAD Faces of Body

Properties

Values the block gives besides its output. The editor lists them under Properties, and an input can read one by reference.

Bodies List of CAD Body

The part's solid bodies, in a stable order sorted by their bounding boxes. A surface the file holds without a solid is not a body: find its faces under Faces.

Faces List of CAD Face

The faces of the part's surfaces — every shell or face the file holds without a solid, such as a surface saved as STEP. Pick one as a CAD Face; a solid body's faces are under its own Faces.

BoundingBox Bounding Box

The box that encloses every body of the part.

Name Text

The part's name, if the STEP file gave it one.
